Langley Green & Ifield East

Mike Sargent is the candidate for this area. Mike has spent most of his career working in Crawley as a software engineer in the avionics industry, having gained degrees in Physics & Electronics and Artificial Intelligence. Speeding traffic, parking and abuse of grass verges are some of the problems raised by residents. As a Liberal Democrat, he is always keen to raise awareness of often neglected inequalities, the huge gender imbalance in UK engineering being one example. Although it is a national problem, he believes Crawley's numerous high tech industries provide a unique opportunity to make progress on the issue locally.

Tilgate & Furnace Green

Kevin Osborne is the candidate for Tilgate and Furnace Green. Kevin is employed locally in Southern Railway Customer Services and lived most of his life in Langley Green. He is familiar with the local issues, such as housing, low pay and potential Gatwick Airport expansion. If elected he would seek to uphold the Liberal Democrat tradition of community politics. He would ensure residents are kept informed of important issues all year round. Currently they receive a leaflet or two from councillors only at election time.

Three Bridges

David Anderson is the candidate for Three Bridges. David was educated in Crawley and has worked in the public and private sectors, in Crawley and internationally as a financial consultant. He would use this experience to provide effective scrutiny of Council budgets to give value for money for Three Bridges residents. In addition to addressing the particular concerns of residents, he would focus on promoting improved road safety and bus services, and ensuring sustainable and appropriate housing development. In a wider context, as a Liberal Democrat he has a keen interest in the protection of civil and human rights.

Pound Hill

Valerie Spooner is the candidate for Pound Hill. Valerie has lived in Pound Hill North for five years. She works as a Housing Officer for RNIB, solving housing problems for people with visual impairments. She would use her problem solving skills to help her fellow residents in Pound Hill North. She will continue to listen to residents and seek to address their concerns, such as the parking problems in the vicinity of Three Bridges Station.

Broadfield

Stephen Tall is the candidate for Broadfield. Stephen Tall has worked in education all his adult life - for 13 years for a university and then for a charity which aims to support schools to improve the attainment of disadvantaged pupils. He believes a good education is the best way we can equip our children to face the future with confidence. The Liberal Democrats did much in government to increase the chances of those children needing the greatest help, especially through the Pupil Premium. However, there is an urgent need to increase education funding and improve opportunities. He hopes to be able to make a difference for the people of Crawley and the rest of our area. He has been a councillor before, for eight years when he lived in Oxford, and hope that this experience can be put to good use here. He lives in Horsham with his partner.
