Conservatives lose another Councillor

7.07.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 8th Nov 2007

To add to the list of Conservative Councillors who have left them to join the Liberal Democrats can now be added that of Worthing Councillor Nick John. This follows the decision of the Tory Cabinet last Tuesday to ignore the views of almost 3000 residents against the development of a new Headquarters for Worthing Yacht Club on public open space land.

Commenting Worthing Lib Dem Group Leader, Cllr Bob Smytherman said "This news will give the local party a real boost as we move towards the next local election in May when we will expose the disaster of the "merger" with Adur which will see residents from Goring and the rest of the town in the future have decisions imposed on them by Councillors elected as far away as Southwick and Fishersgate!"

Crawley Lib Dem Group Leader Gordon Seekings said "Bob may be referring to Southwick & Fishersgate being a long way away from Goring but Adur Conservative Councillors have one of their number living here in Crawley. In fact she not only lives here in Crawley but is also a Councillor on Crawley Borough Council!"
