What are StreetCare Champions?

10.27.08pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 9th Oct 2007

StreetCare Champions are volunteer residents who take pride in their local area and are keen to make their neighbourhoods cleaner, greener and safer. They are the 'eyes and ears' for the Council.

There are currently 125 active champions. Over the past year they have been getting together every two months to share their experiences and find out more about environmental issues such as litter and recycling collection, tree and shrub maintenance, Community Wardens and conservation. As well as reporting environmental problems, such as graffiti, vandalism and fly tipping, Champions are a consultative group for new and improved services.

The StreetCare Champions scheme links to the highly successful Let's FACE it! campaign, which has seen over a hundred volunteer-led environmental improvement projects undertaken since it was launched in April 2005.

How can you become a StreetCare Champion?

If you are especially interested in the local environment, and have spare time on your hands, why not join the Champion scheme? Phone Colin Hayler, Education Officer, on 01293 438547, email colin.hayler@crawley.gov.uk, or write to Amenity Services at the Crawley Town Hall, The Boulevard, Crawley, RH10 1UZ
