Andrew Stunell - "This will be welcome news for mobile phones users"

Cheaper mobile phone calls from abroad have got the thumbs up from Hazel Grove Lib Dem MP Andrew Stunell. He's backing new EU Roaming Regulations which will reduce the amount that consumers pay for using their mobile phones abroad by around 50%.

Commenting on plans due to start in September, the MP for Hazel Grove said "This will be welcome news for mobile phones users, though it is a shame that the new Eurotariff will not be in place until the end of the summer when many people will be taking enjoying their summer holidays on the continent."

"It is a good practical example of the benefits that can be gained for both businesses and individuals from working more closely with Europe."

Notes:

1. The new Eurotariff will take general effect for consumers from September 2007.

2. Calls anywhere in Europe will cost no more than 49 cents (38 pence) a minute, including VAT, to make calls and no more than 24 cents (19 pence), including VAT, to receive calls.
