Broadfield Youth needs YOU!1.33.49pm UTC (GMT +0000) Sat 10th Feb 2007
The reason? Broadfield's newly opened Youth Club run by the County Council at Creasy Drive - and backed by Broadfield Youth and Community Centre, the Police, Crawley Council and the local Churches - runs on Monday and Wednesday evenings. The Club has funding but only has a small staff. If one of the workers is unable to attend the club cannot run. They are therefore looking for youthful, enthusiastic, supportive and non-critical, volunteers to provide support during the evenings and to organise activities and events. The Youth club has really helped improve the whole estate as youngsters that once loitered in the local shopping parade, The Barton, now attend the centre. Youngsters no longer have to 'hang around' street corners with little to do. They can play Pool, PC Games, Watch TV or just chat in a warm and safe environment. The youngsters have already organised an Ice skating outing themselves funded by the Youth Service. Added to this they are looking at ways of fund raising through sponsored events to help other needy causes. Many of the youngsters have had a complete turn around, although there is lots of work still to do. By being given good support from Youth services, police and local bodies it's all good news and very promising. This is a very important and major project in Broadfield. If you are able to offer any help please contact Cllr Marcella Head on 01293 552963 and she will pass your name and details on to the Organiser.
