Woodfield Road, Northgate - Planning Permission granted for more flats but road improvements on the way2.50.43pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 19th Sep 2006
Last night Crawley Borough Council granted Planning Permission for 9 flats in Woodfield Road to replace an existing detached house at number 15. Money for much needed road improvements has been promised however. Northgate Councillor, Gordon Seekings, argued that there were major problems in Woodfield Road due to the speed and volume of traffic and this application would only add to that. Although the Development Control Committee agreed with Gordon it was felt the additional cars associated with these extra 9 flats would only increase the problems marginally. It was not a strong enough reason for rejecting the application. The developer however gave an undertaking to make a voluntary donation toward road improvements and this was gratefully accepted. Commenting afterwards Gordon said, "This one application may not cause a problem but the cumulative effect of all the different applications in this part of Woodfield Road does. I am pleased that the developer of this site recognises the problems and has chosen to make a very public commitment to the area. I just wish the same could be said of West Sussex County Council who are actually responsible for the road."
