Liberal Democrats moving forward as Crawley changes control3.37.20am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 5th May 2006
03:30 STOP PRESS. Liberal Democrats in Crawley are celebrating the re-election of Linda Seekings as the Councillor for Northgate at the local elections held yesterday. In addition to this win the Liberal Democrats moved into second place in both the Maidenbower Ward and that of Pound Hill South & Worth. Crawley however saw three seats change hands from Labour to Conservative to give the Conservatives control of Crawley by one seat. Of these Southgate was won easily by nearly 200 votes; Ifield by only 21 votes and Broadfield South by the drawing of lots after both parties received exactly 500 votes each. What this means is that less than 221 voters decided on the fate of a town of over 100,000 people. More details and fuller reports will be posted later.
