Crawley Housing Update9.53.07pm UTC (GMT +0000) Sun 23rd Apr 2006 Most residents who live in Council owned houses in Crawley will know that Crawley Borough Council - like most Council's that have a housing stock - are being forced by the Labour Government to consider the "privatisation" of Council Housing. The Government have set rules that do not allow the Borough Council to continue as it is without incurring costs of literally tens of millions of pounds more than if it is "privatised". The Liberal Democrats believe that this is wrong and Crawley should be allowed to keep the present system. There should not be this multi-million penalty if they don't "privatise". Crawley Lib Dems therefore support "the fourth option" on council housing that is being denied to them by the Labour Government. The final decision on this "privatisation" will however be made by the tenants of Crawley Borough Council themselves in an all tenants ballot. The decision is NOT one that will be made by Councillors but by all of Crawley Borough Council's tenants. Crawley Lib Dems therefore urge all Crawley Borough Council tenants, when they receive details of the all tenant ballot later this year should make sure they use their vote to decide their own housing future.
