Ban The Bulb - Says Linda Seekings

Northgate's Lib Dem Councillor, Linda Seekings is supporting Dr Matt Prescott, organiser of the Oxford Earth Summit and director of www.banthebulb.org, in calling for a far greater use of energy efficient light bulbs. Linda was shocked to discover that 10% of the UK's electricity consumption is caused by the use of lightbulbs with most of that energy being wasted on inefficient old style incandescent bulbs.

Linda said that "While energy efficient bulbs might seem to be expensive each bulb can save up to £7 per year in electricity charges." She welcomed moves by Britain's major supermarkets and DIY stores to stock a wider range of energy efficient bulbs but is calling of the Government to take further action. "A simple piece of legislation banning the use of old style energy consuming bulbs would save residents pounds and cut carbon dioxide emissions greatly."
