Crawley Liberal Democrats - Working for Crawley the whole year round

Ballot Papers arrive

12.52.04pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 7th Feb 2006

Ballot papers have now been sent out to all Liberal Democrats members to cast their votes in the leadership election. The new Lib Dem leader will be named on 2 March and unlike the Conservative and Labour parties it is one member, one vote - and the candidates have not been vetted by MP's or anyone else before the members vote.

Ballot papers have been sent out to all Liberal Democrat members - and they alone will choose the party's next leader.

The candidates are acting leader Sir Menzies Campbell, party president Simon Hughes and junior Treasury spokesman Chris Huhne.

Chair of Crawley Liberal Democrats and Northgate Councillor Gordon Seekings also happens to work at Liberal Democrats HQ in London and is urging all members to vote "We have three superb candidates and any of them would be a formidable leader. Unlike the Labour and the Conservative parties we have a one member, one vote election and the candidates are not pre-packaged or vetted by MP's before the membership gets to vote."
