“Repeal draconian anti-protest laws" - Mark Oaten MP

The Lib Dem Shadow Home Secretary, Mark Oaten MP, has tabled a motion in Parliament calling on the government to repeal the new anti-protest powers that led to the prosecution of Maya Evans. She had stood outside Downing Street and read out a list of the names of British soldiers killed in Iraq.

Mr Oaten said, "The arrest and prosecution of Maya Evans is an affront to free speech, the right to protest and the traditions of this country. This is yet another example of the government riding roughshod over our hard won liberties."
