ASBO's are not sufficient to cut crime

1.01.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Sun 6th Nov 2005

Linda Seekings, one of Northgate's Liberal Democrats Councillors, commenting on the publication of the latest Anti-Social Behaviour statistics said "ASBOs can be a useful tool in cutting crime and tackling anti-social behaviour, but they can only be truly effective if they are matched by long-term measures to change behaviour and stop re-offending."

"Record numbers of ASBOs do not mean the streets are any safer. Too often an ASBO is a badge of honour, not a real solution to offensive behaviour. Victims of crime and anti-social behaviour deserve policies which offer long-term solutions not quick fixes."
