Fastway - response to Labour's claims12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Sun 24th Apr 2005
Pound Hill, Worth and Maidenbower County Council candidate, Eddie Reay has responded to comment made by Crawley's Labour MP over Fastway. Eddie has written to Crawley's Newspapers drawing their attention to her claims over the Fastway bus system. "I am very pleased to note the success of the Fastway bus service and therefore a reduction in road traffic use as mentioned in her election leaflet. However it is not just a Labour supported initiative but also by my own party, the Liberal Democrats, and I believe the Conservatives as well." Eddie went on to say "Whilst it is to be welcomed it should be noted that Pound Hill has no decent public transport service to either the Airport or the Industrial Estate. These are the main centres of employment in the town and it is scandalous that Pound Hill is not being properly served." "With a fraction of the promotion being given to Fastway we could have a regular and frequent service. This would certainly take a lot of the pressure off the Balcombe Road and the junctions with the roads into the Pound Hill residential areas. The Balcombe Road is a road that Tory run West Sussex County Council has done little to improve over the years and a better public transport service along it should be a priority."
