Commenting on Conservative MP's Tim Yeo's pledge to tackle congestion by expanding the road network, local Lib Dem Councillor Gordon Seekings said "When will the Tories learn that new roads mean more cars and more pollution? We simply cannot build our way out of congestion."

"The only responsible policy is one that encourages people out of their cars by offering a safe, reliable and affordable public transport alternative. The Tarmac Tories are offering nothing but concrete to fill the cracks in Labour's failing transport system."
