Labour renege on agreement

At Crawley Borough Council's AGM on 2 July the Labour group went back on an all party agreement, made less than two weeks ago, on the number of places each party would have on Committees and Working Groups for the coming year. Just a few hours before the Council's AGM Labour decided to ignore the agreements made.

Although this may seem a minor issue it is critical for the good running of the Council if it is going to reflect the wishes of the public. It is of the utmost importance that each political party is represented on the major committees to reflect the support given to them at the ballot box.

Lib Dem Councillor Gordon Seekings said "All this has gone by the board with one block vote of Labour Councillors - Councillors who were elected with less than 40% support of the public. I may be able to trust Labour Councillors as individuals but collectively I will never ever trust them again to honour any agreement they may want to make."
