Tories still support the discredited Council Tax

Tory leader Michael Howard is the man who introduced it and his party still defends it. For example, Michael Ancram described the council tax "as fair a tax as you will find". Shadow Chancellor Oliver Letwin has said that the Tories propose to double the revenue councils raise locally while keeping council tax.

Local Councillor Linda Seekings said "Presumably they are proposing to double everyone in the country's council tax! It will be interesting to see if the Tories deny this otherwise what they are saying doesn't make sense."
