Labour break election promise on Student Fees

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 23rd Mar 2004

Labour are breaking their election promise not to introduce top-up fees for students.

The Liberal Democrats would stop top-up fees, scrap tuition fees and bring in fair grants (for poorer students). This would be paid for by asking the highest earners to pay a small amount extra in tax.

Many students in Crawley are facing massive debts, whilst at the same time in there is a massive skills shortage here. We are penalising the very people we desperately need!

Top-up fees don't come in until 2006. Even if the Bill does become law they can still be stopped, if every student, potential student, their families and friends vote Lib Dem at the next Election it will be stopped.
