Students face £30,000 plus debts12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 26th Mar 2004
Shameful - South East students to face £30,000 plus debts after Labour break election promises says John Vincent. Lib Dems are pledging to continue the fight against top up and tuition fees. The prospect of large debts will put many off attending university. Lib Dem campaigner and Euro candidate John Vincent said: "Local people will not forget this betrayal of election promises. I am proud that every single Lib Dem MP voted against these fees." John works for the Civil Aviation Authority at Gatwick Airport. He knows what impact saddling students with heavy debts will have in a high house price region like the South East. A shortage of teachers and doctors will be magnified by this measure by Labour. "We need an educated workforce to compete in Europe. This is fundamental to our future success as a trading nation." John went on to say "Labour may have got its way but their vote on fees is shameful and shortsighted."
