Crawley Liberal Democrats - Working for Crawley the whole year round

New Labour, Old Tories, same old mess over Post Offices

10.34.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 2nd Jan 2004

Commenting on the threat to close 4 sub-Post Offices in Crawley (Northgate Parade, Ifield Green, Pound Hill's Peterhouse Parade and West Green's Ewhurst Road) Lib Dem Councillor Gordon Seekings says "This has been forced on the Post Office by the stupid attitude of the Government."

"There are over 4,300 Pensioners in these areas who rely at the moment on the Post Office to get their pension. (Source for this is the 2001 Census figures). They are ALL going to have to go elsewhere to get their Pensions. It's typical that this information has been sneaked out over the Christmas/New Year period in the hope that no one would notice."

"It's hypocrisy for the Conservative Party to claim it would be different if they were in control - don't forget over 4000 sub-Post Offices closed during the years they were in power."
